On Thursday 4 May 2023, Luxembourg's Ministry of Energy and Spatial Planning published the results of efforts to reduce natural gas consumption in the Grand Duchy.
In order to prepare for next winter and to guarantee the security of supply in the European Union, the renewal for one year of the measure aimed at the voluntary reduction of 15% in the demand for natural gas has been decided at European level.
This target forms part of the European Union's (EU) voluntary target for member states to reduce their natural gas consumption by 15% compared to the reference period from 2017 to 2022.
In April 2023, Luxembourg reduced its natural gas consumption by about 15% compared to this reference period, thus on track to meet the EU Member States' natural gas demand reduction target.
