The Embassy of Japan in Luxembourg has announced a call for participants to take part in a photo contest in Japan for secondary school students.
According to the embassy, the town of Higashikawa on the Japanese island of Hokkaido, known as “The Town of Photography”, is holding its annual international photo festival for secondary school students, called “International Secondary School Students Photo Festival Exchange”. The festival is designed to promote international exchange among young people through the medium of photography.
This year, the town will invite students from fifteen countries and regions, including Luxembourg, to take part in the contest, with three students and one teacher from a representative school being invited to visit Hokkaido as part of its participation.
In order to select students for the contest, the Embassy of Japan in Luxembourg will hold a preliminary contest, with support from the Fédération Luxembourgeoise de la Photographie Artistique (FLPA).
The theme of this year’s photo contest is “The Charm of Your Region” and pupils from the fourth cycle of primary school up to the first cycle of secondary school in Luxembourg can participate.
Those wishing to participate can apply via their school. Only one team (consisting of three students and one teacher) from each school can apply. Applicants should send photos and their application form by e-mail to the coordinator at the Embassy of Japan in Luxembourg (email: culture.embjapan@lx.mofa.go.jp). The deadline for applications is Friday May 30 2025 at 10:00.
The application form and contest rules are available at: https://www.lu.emb-japan.go.jp/itpr_fr/11_000001_00171.html
Last year’s festival was a success for Luxembourg, with seven secondary schools in Luxembourg applying to enter the preliminary contest. L’École Privée Sainte-Anne won the chance to participate in Higashikawa and students from the school visited the town in August 2024 to take part in the festival, where they were awarded the “Sponsor’s Choice Award of Excellence”.
