The new Luxembourg public school system in Differdange has been deemed a success in its first semester; it is based on the international and European school models which will respond to the needs of all students.
In order to offer every student a chance of success and better future prospects, regardless of whether they speak Luxembourgish at home or not, Luxembourg’s government has decided to immediately pursue efforts to diversify the provision of education by extending part of the International School of Differdange’s (EIDD) educational provision to Esch-sur-Alzette.
The huge success which the EIDD has witnessed confirms the need to further enlarge the provision of linguistic modules in public schools.
Therefore, this public education provision will be extended to the south, to Esch-sur-Alzette, with the implementation of additional classes from the EIDD, specifically in the primary section. These extra classes will begin in 2017/2018 in the Victor Hugo building, which is currently part of Lycée Hubert Clément but which will form part of the EIDD in the future.
The new International School offering in Esch-sur-Alzette will offer several language streams from the academic year 2017/2018, including an English and a French stream - which are already offered in Differdange - as well as a German stream which will also follow the curriculum set in European schools; English will be taught as the second language and French as the third.
In the mid-term, the EIDD in Differdange will also offer primary classes in the three language streams, thus allowing children who are not native English or French speakers to later pursue their primary school education at the EIDD. Luxembourgish will also be taught in all areas of the EIDD.
