For the twelfth consecutive year, the Félix Chomé Foundation in Luxembourg has awarded scholarships to deserving students with a modest income; the number of students taking advantage of the support is constantly growing.
Since 2004, the Foundation has been able to support a total of 584 students from different cultures, all residing in Luxembourg. Half are Luxembourg nationals, a fifth oare f Portuguese nationality. while 30% deserving students are from other countries. In 2016, the committee responsible for the allocation of scholarships received 126 nominations, of which 107 were selected for a total grant of €152,250.
The Chomé Foundation, the primary purpose of which is to provide independent senior students with modest income with pleasant accommodation, and awards scholarships to students with a diploma of secondary or technical secondary studies issued by a Luxembourg institution. This allocation of scholarships can continue until and including a Master's degree.
Applications are opened in March and subject to the judgment of an independent commission consisting mainly of high school teachers. The commission does not consider students' nationalities; the main criteria taken into consideration are limited to the results they have obtained in high school during the last academic year and the household income in which young people live.
The Felix Chomé Foundation was established in late 1972 following a donation made by Mrs. Alice Chomé-Bastian and in memory of her husband, Mr. Felix Chomé, former CEO and chairman of the former Arbed steel group.
