On Tuesday 28 April 2026, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Education, Children and Youth announced the introduction of two new vocational training programmes for the 2026/2027 school year.

According to the ministry, the new initiative aims to adapt the education system to labour market needs and to help to prepare young people for the “best chances of success in their adult lives”.

The Lycée des Arts et Métiers will introduce a three-year Diploma of Vocational Aptitude (DAP) programme for Security and Safety Agents. The three-year full-time course at school, with three compulsory work placements in companies will be organised in German. The programme will train students to protect people and property, monitor premises, control access and respond to incidents, as well as identify risky situations, reassure the public and ensure that rules and instructions are followed.

The other training programme will be organised by the Lycée du Nord and the Lycée privé Émile Metz, offering a three-year training for the Certificate of Professional Competence (CCP) for Assistants in Metalwork Trades. Students will attend school two days per week and train in a company for three days per week under an apprenticeship contract, with courses organised in German and French.

The programme includes basic metalwork tasks such as cutting custom pieces, preparing parts based on sketches or technical drawings, deburring edges, degreasing components and protecting or covering specific areas. Students will also assist professionals during pre-assembly in workshops and final installation at client sites, as well as take part in logistics, transport of materials and securing the work area.

These two new programmes will complement the launch of seven first-year DAP programmes, which will be offered from 2026/2027 and will allow holders of a secondary school leaving certificate, whether from classical or general education, or a technician diploma or equivalent, to follow a one-year vocational course leading to a DAP, highlighted the ministry.
