On Thursday 19 March 2026, Luxembourg’s Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity held the BNE Networking event, which took place at the Forum Geesseknäppchen in Luxembourg-Merl.
Organised as part of the BNE Days 2026, the meeting set within an interinstitutional dynamic, aimed to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between stakeholders involved in implementing sustainability in Luxembourg.
According to the ministry, the event brought together more than 75 interactive exhibition stands, which presented a range of educational tools, projects and resources developed by civil society organisations, public administrations, educational institutions, museums, as well as numerous institutional partners.
The BNE Networking event offered visitors the opportunity to discover new approaches, engage directly with field actors, identify new avenues for collaboration around sustainable development challenges and encourage wider dissemination of initiatives contributing to the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
The BNE Days and the BNE Networking event are jointly organised by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, the Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth, and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, with the participation of numerous educational and institutional partners.
The ministers welcomed the stakeholders and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening interinstitutional cooperation in support of a sustainable transition.
Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs
Xavier Bettel, Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, stated: “It is essential to raise awareness among young people about global issues and to connect them with NGO actors. The BNE Networking event plays a key role in this regard by strengthening the visibility of the sector and by fostering exchanges.”
Claude Meisch, Luxembourg’s Minister of National Education, Children and Youth:
“The first edition of the BNE Days marks a key milestone for education for sustainable development in Luxembourg. It highlights the commitment and creativity of teachers and students, who carry forward innovative initiatives across the country. With the BNE Days, we encourage all educational structures to become true models of sustainability, while strengthening the participation and autonomy of young people. By integrating education for sustainable development as a cross-cutting thematic field in the new primary education curriculum, we lay the foundations for an education system that empowers every young person to understand, act and engage.”
Serge Wilmes, Luxembourg’s Minister of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity: “The ecological transition can only succeed if it is carried forward collectively. The BNE Networking event perfectly illustrates how ministries, schools, associations and citizens can work closely together to advance education for sustainable development. By strengthening awareness and skills among children and young people, we equip the next generation to act in an informed way in response to climate and environmental challenges. Their engagement is essential: it is with them and for them, that we are building a sustainable future in Luxembourg.”
The BNE Days programme will continue with BNE Youth activities, organised for children and young people across the country, as well as with continuing training offered through BNE Training, certified by the National Institute for Educational Training (IFEN).
