On Friday morning in Diekirch, the Brasserie de Luxembourg (Diekirch-Mousel brewery) announced details of a sizeable development project that would see a new brewery for Diekirch beer in the north of the country as well as a real estate project.

John Penning, CEO of Saphir Capital Partners and manager of Coogee sarl, and Jérôme Simon, Country Manager of Matexi Luxembourg, and manager of Coogee sarl, explained their involvement in the project as investors which will see 200+ homes, offices and retail units developed on the historical site of the brewery which dates back to 1871. Cogee sarl is a joint venture between Saphir Capital Partners and Matexi Luxembourg. Claude Haagen, Mayor of Diekirch, said how delighted he was to have such a development project in the town.

The new brewery, which will be developed as the first phase if the project, will be used for brewing both Diekirch and Mousel beers, with the existing brewery being used until the new one is ready.

John Penning stated that he is delighted that the AB InBev group continues to invest in Luxembourg; they have been collaborating with AB InBev since 2010 and this partnership will see the Draïeck Dikrech site transformed into a modern multi-purpose facility.

Stijn de Beer of Diekirch brewery confirmed that the workforce of 69 people would not be affected by the new project.

Speaking with Chronicle.lu, John Penning explained that work on the new brewery would start immediately as the location is within the current facility, and is due for completion in 2018 Q1. As soon as production is transferred to the new brewery, the old brewery will be torn down and the new real estate project will commence.
