Bofferding brewery in Bascharage has opened a new restaurant / brasserie in a new building that combines rustic charm with modernity.
Operated by the same management as the brasserie in the Abbaye Neumunster in Luxembourg-Grund, the Brasserie An Der Brauerei was built on the plot formerly occupied for storage. The new three-storey structure has two floors for dining (80 covers) and a third for meetings and events.
Another 60 covers can be accommodated on the terrace in summer. The ceiling and wall are decorated with bottles and artifacts from bygone times at the brewery, with the bar capped with the top of an old copper vat.
The menu comprises 7 draught beers, 10 bottled beers and a special "degustation" option to taste 4 beers (€9.50). The fare is primarily traditional Luxembourgish with a section dedicated to beer speciality dishes (beef, pork, cod, prawns), with the speical Beer Menu at €45. But this is not just a "beer restaurant", there are three vegitarian dishes, a €12 children's menu and various Luxembourg staples - we tried the Bouchée à la Reine and traditional Luxembourgish sausage and mash. The dessert menu ranges from profiteroles to 3 beer sorbets (see pictures).
The new dining concept is already a big hit with locals and it will only be a matter of time before others discover this "secret of Luxembourg", made special by it decor, ambiance and menu that combines tradition with innovation. Well worth a try!
Bofferding brewery produces 160k hectolitres of beer in Bascharage for which it sources malted grain from the Greater Region, primarily from France, with the hops coming from Germany. Already, its one thousand hectolitres of Christmas Beer has been brewed in one of the large vats. It brews 3 Bofferding beers and 3 Battin beers in Bascharage, with high fermentation beers brewed by a partner brewery in Belgium. While its main market is the Grand Duchy, its main groth in export markets are in France and Belgium (Greater Region, up to 150kms from the border). It also exports to a restaurant chain in China, the US, Columbia, Iceland and the Cote d'Azur.
The Restaurant An Der Brauerei (Brasserie Bofferding) is located at 148 avenue de Luxembourg, L-4940 Bascharage (parking in car-park opposite). It is open 7 days/week, except Saturday lunchtimes.
