Luxembourg’s Ministry of Culture has issued a call for projects for the 6th edition of “Rendez-vous aux Jardins” which will take place from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 June 2025.
This year’s theme will be “Jardins de pierres - pierres de jardins” ("Stone Gardens - Garden Stones"). The event is organised in cooperation with the Ligue Luxembourgeoise du Coin de Terre et du Foyer (CFT - Luxembourg League of the corner of the earth and the hearth).
Designed to awaken the senses and to allow the public to discover the variety and richness of cultivated spaces, the “Rendez-vous aux jardins” events highlight the art of the garden and gardening heritage as well as their essential role in the well-being and identity of people both in the city and in rural areas.
The “Rendez-vous aux jardins” were launched in 2018 by HEREIN, a European information and cooperation network on cultural heritage, that brings together European public administrations responsible for national policies and strategies in the cultural heritage sector. Thousands of stakeholders - gardeners, botanists, landscapers, private and public owners, etc - mobilise each year for this event. In 2024, 3,075 gardens welcomed more than two million visitors across Europe, including 50 gardens in Luxembourg that attracted 3,800 visitors.
Under the theme of "Stone Gardens - Garden Stones", open-air concerts, guided tours, workshops, sketching sessions and free discoveries will allow the exploration of the tradition of terraced gardens in orchards, the art of dry stone construction, (classified by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage), rockeries designed for biodiversity and gardens with impressive enclosure walls. It is also an opportunity to observe specific flora and fauna that have adapted to extreme conditions, for example poor soils, drought, temperature variations and direct exposure to the sun. There will be an opportunity to touch and look at the geological layers of the variety of stones specific to an area.
The Ministry of Culture has invited any public or private interested party to participate in this project, which aims to raise visitors’ awareness of the protection, conservation, maintenance, restoration and creation of gardens. The ministry added that, as part of its “Aid for cultural projects” policy, it is willing to support events organised as part of the “Rendez-vous aux jardins.”
