The Indian Association of Luxembourg (IAL), together with the Embassy of India in Brussels, has announced a yoga session, as part of the International Day of Yoga, at the Abbaye de Neumünster (neimënster) in Luxembourg-Grund on Sunday 19 June 2022.

Celebrated annually in Luxembourg since 2014, yoga workshops are organised on this occasion with support from the Indian Embassy. On 19 June, in the presence of a trained yoga teacher and Deputy Chief of Mission in Brussels, Debashiah Prusty, two yoga sessions of 45 minutes each are being organised, one at 10:00 and another at 11:00. The sessions are free-of-charge to attend and are open to all yoga enthusiasts in Luxembourg. The organisers have recommended those attending to bring along a hand towel, a water bottle, a yoga mat and wear a white T-shirt.

The Ambassador of India to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union (EU), Santosh Jha, said: "I am glad that the Embassy of India in association with Indian Association Luxembourg and friends of India in Luxembourg is organising International Yoga Day on 19th June 2022 in Abbey Neumunster. Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India and it means to join or to unite, symbolising the union of body and consciousness. The United Nations had proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga, based on the proposal initiated by India and endorsed by a record 175 member states. Our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has said: Yoga is an invaluable gift from our ancient tradition".

Reflecting on the benefits of yoga, Ambassador Jha said: "The COVID-19 pandemic has made us realise the importance of living in harmony with our environment. Yoga helps us achieve the balance between physical strength and mental well being. I am sure that all of us who practice Yoga would realise the calming and soothing effect it has on our lives and help us achieve oneness with our self and nature".

He concluded:: "I am hopeful that [residents in] Luxembourg would participate in large numbers in the event and will strengthen the cultural connection between India and Luxembourg. I wish everyone "Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramaya" which means, wishing everyone happiness and wishing everyone a disease free life."

Additional yoga workshops will take place in Belgium, in Brussels, on 18 June, 09:45 onwards, in Antwerp, on 19 June, 09:00 onwards and in Enghein / Edingen, on 19 June, 10:00 onwards.

The event is also part of "India at 75", a flagship initiative to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of India's independence.
