On Wednesday evening, the International Bazaar committee announced that their 56th event held on the last week-end of November 2016 raised a total of €580,000 for charity.

More than 28,000 visitors attend last year's bazaar which featured a total of 73 different stands representing 63 countries. The annual cheque presentation ceremony was held at the headquarters of BGL BNP Paribas in Luxembourg-Kirchberg in the presence of aldermen from the ville de Luxembourg as well as a number of Ambassadors from some of the countries active in last November's event, in addition to representatives of many of the national stands.

The proceeds of the 86th international bazaar are being distributed to 86 charities proposed by the individual stands and evaluated by the committee.

The principal charity of 2016 was the Blue Dragon Children's Foundation in Hanoi, Vietnam, which received €30,000. the organisation helps street children, disabled children and children who are victims of human trafficking in Vietnam and surrounding border areas. The bazaar's contribution will finance the cost of schooling, professional training, medical care, etc., for some 90 children rescued from the streets, human trafficking or slavery, for a year.

Three charities based in Luxembourg each received €7,000: Trauerwee asbl (Tétange), Fondation Autisme Luxembourg (Capellen) and Fondation Kriibskrank Kanner (Strassen).

A total of €143,000 was awarded to a further 20 Luxembourg organisations which support projects in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Congo (DRC), Haiti, Nicaragua, Tibet, etc.

The remaining €395,000 was awarded to a large number of other organisations around the world, with special emphasis placed on developing countries.

The 57th International Bazaar will take place on 25 & 26 November at LuxExpo-the Box in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.
