Lea Melki will be performing at the Columbia University Orchestra Spring Concert on Wednesday 6 April 2016 in New York at the Tully Hall.
Born in Luxembourg, Lea Melki started playing the violin from the age of four at the Luxembourg Conservatory. Continuing her lessons when the family moved to Dubai, she joined the Emirates Youth Symphony Orchestra from 2001 to 2009. She put the violin aside to study for an Engineering degree in Paris at the Telecom Physique Strasbourg as well as a Master Degree in Medical Imaging from the University of Strasbourg. Moving to New York in 2015 she started her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University in the Ultrasound Elasticity Imaging Laboratory. In New York she also joined the Columbia University Orchestra conducted by Jeffrey Milarsky from the Juilliard School.
She will be performing Edvard Grieg's Aase’s Death from Peer Gynt – Suite #1, Jean Sibelius' Violin Concerto (Mov. 1) featuring violinist Austin Wang and Igor Stravinsky's Petrouchka (1947 version).
