The Turkish Borusan Quartet, from the Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, will be performing at Centre des Arts Pluriels Ettelbruck (CAPE) on Thursday 22 October 2015 as part of the Belgian EUROPALIA festival.
Through a programme including 'The Dissonance' quartet by Mozart, a piece by Russian composer Aleksey Igudesman and miniature compositions by modern musicians, the four musicians will provide a bridge between classical European music and Turkish contemporary art.
The Borusan String Quartet was created in 2005 by Gürer Aykal and their growing success has culminated in regular performances at the Süreyya Opera House of Kadiköy in Istanbul and at major international concert halls such as the Konzerthaud in Berlin, Carnegie Hall in New York, The Corum in Montpellier and Verdi Hall of the Milan Conservatory.
This has been accompanied by critical acclaim and international accolades, including 'Best Chamber Music Ensemble' by Andante Magazine in 2010 and the International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition (ICMEC) at Carnegie Hall.
Whilst the repertoire of the quartet is extensive, they particularly indulge their audiences in the work of Turkish composers and have specialised over the years in the modern music of Oğuzhan Balcı, Mahir Çetiz, Turgay Erdener, Özkan Manav, Alper Maral, Turgut Pöğün and Uçarsu Hasan.
The concert forms part of EUROPALIA, which has been organising four month multidisplicinary artistic programmes since 1969, both in Belgium and in neighbouring countries. Through the performing arts, music, literature, lectures and films, EUROPALIA presents pieces of heritage as well as an outlet for the contemporary art scene and allows for the exchange between artists in the invited country and Europe.
For its 25th anniversary, EUROPALIA is bridging the cultures of Asia and Europe with an edition dedicated to Turkey.
