On Friday 10 July 2026, the Luxembourg Red Cross announced the completion of the structural works for the extension and modernisation of its Socio-Therapeutic Centre (CST) in Kautenbach.
The milestone was marked by a topping-out ceremony held on Wednesday 8 July 2026, attended by, among others, donor Edouard Kneip, whose generous contribution made the project possible.
According to the Luxembourg Red Cross, the new facility is scheduled to open at the start of the 2027-2028 school year. It will provide modern, purpose-built infrastructure for children in primary education experiencing school-related difficulties and behavioural challenges.
In addition to expanding the CST's capacity from six to eight places, the new building will also accommodate a residential group from the Norbert Ensch Reception Centre (CANE), providing four temporary accommodation places for children requiring intensive support in a safe and family-oriented environment.
The Luxembourg Red Cross said the project reflects its commitment to strengthening services for vulnerable children and families by providing facilities specifically designed to support educational, therapeutic and social care.
"This building is above all the result of an extraordinary act of generosity. Thanks to Mr Edouard Kneip's donation, we will be able to provide children experiencing difficulties at school with an environment specifically designed for their needs, promoting their development, well-being and reintegration into education. This generous gesture will enable us to provide long-term support to children and families going through particularly difficult situations," commented Mireille Neuen-Gales, Director of the Children and Family Support Department at the Luxembourg Red Cross.
