On Thursday 5 June 2025, Luxembourg-based non-profit organisation SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde (SOSVEM) announced that it had received a donation of €20,904 from the Luxembourg School of Hospitality and Tourism (EHTL) in Diekirch.

SOSVEM, in partnership with EHTL, organised an Africa-themed dinner on Thursday 27 March 2025. Proceeds from the event (generated through seat reservations, donations and a raffle) will support SOS projects in Benin.

Michel Lanners, Director of EHTL, recently welcomed Sophie Glesener, Director of SOSVEM, to the school, together with staff and students who prepared and served the charity dinner that made the donation possible. During her visit, the donation was formally handed over in support of SOSVEM initiatives assisting vulnerable children, young people and families in Benin. Since 1987, the local SOS association has worked to support children without parental care or at risk of losing it.

According to SOSVEM, the project supports two development programmes in Benin, carried out as part of SOSVEM’s cooperation agreement with its supervisory ministry. These programmes focus on the rights of children and young people in Abomey-Calavi and Parakou. In 2023, they assisted 299 families, 1,346 children (including 644 girls) and 237 young people entering the job market, as well as numerous community-based child protection structures, including eighteen Child Protection Committees and eighteen Children’s Clubs.
