Children from the Maisons Relais Mathendahl and Niederkorn recently presented a cheque for €2,045 to Stëmm vun der Strooss, a local non-profit organisation supporting people experiencing homelessness and social exclusion.

The non-profit reported that, under the guidance of Vera Gadde, Conny Jaroni, Myriam Peter, Marlene Oliveira and Rafaela Godinho, the children handed over the cheque to Alexandra Oxacelay, Director of Stëmm vun der Strooss, during a meeting marked by an enriching Q&A session. The amount raised came from sales made during last year’s summer festival.

During the meeting, Alexandra Oxacelay answered various questions from the children, such as: "Why do homeless people sleep outside?", "How do they visit a doctor?", "Can they take a shower?" and "Do they wear the same clothes every day?" She presented the different missions of Stëmm vun der Strooss, highlighting that the organisation not only distributes meals and clothing but also fights against social exclusion linked to complex issues such as addiction, poverty, homelessness, hardship and unemployment.

“Raising awareness among young people is crucial because they are the ones who will build the society of tomorrow,” emphasised Alexandra Oxacelay. She also noted the lack of human resources available to meet the increasing number of requests for presentations from schools, high schools and Maisons Relais across the country.

The meeting once again highlighted, according to Stëmm vun der Strooss, the importance of building bridges between generations to promote a more supportive society from an early age.
