Lëtzebuerger Bicherfrënn – Les Amis du Livre, a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting and preserving literary heritage through the sale of second-hand books, recently provided financial support to one of its chosen charities, Stëmm vun der Strooss.

Alexandra Oxacelay, Director of Stëmm vun der Strooss, a non-profit organisation supporting the homeless and vulnerable members of society, expressed her delight at being invited to the official donation ceremony. The event took place on 17 December 2024 where representatives of Lëtzebuerger Bicherfrënn presented her with a donation of €12,000.

This support will help Stëmm vun der Strooss finance part of the costs associated with the development of its Schweesdrëps workshop in Sanem. Schweesdrëps is a therapeutic workshop providing laundry services for sports clubs. Staff at the workshop clean the uniforms of 42 sports clubs each week, equating to 321 teams or approximately 4,000 jerseys, shorts and socks.

To improve working conditions in the Schweesdrëps workshop, Stëmm vun der Strooss said it plans to invest in new equipment, including an industrial washing machine, a water softener, and customised software to process orders and organise daily tasks more efficiently. The estimated budget for these improvements amounts to €70,000.
