The Stëmm vun der Strooss organisation that supports the homeless and vulnerable members of society has issued a press release which states that, as every year in winter, it is faced with a great demand for sleeping bags.

In spite of the "Wanteraktioun" facility at Findel, many people are forced to spend the night outdoors, either because they have no rights in Luxembourg or because they "cannot bear the rules imposed on them by life in the community".

As a result, those responsible of the charitable organisation therefore ordered another 500 sleeping bags: costing a total of around €20,000, the organisation is relieved that it can count on donors to cover part of the costs.

On Saturday 14 December, the municipality of Mondorf-les-Bains invited the director of Stëmm, Alexandra Oxacelay, to its Christmas market on the Place des Villes Jumelées. She was presented with a cheque for €8,000 - a lovely Christmas present - from the mayor, Steve Reckel, which will be used to finance part of the costs of the association's traditional Christmas party and the purchase of 500 sleeping bags. As Alexandra Oxacelay emphasised: "Our Christmas party and the gifts distributed there are always eagerly awaited by our customers"

The income comes from two major events organised by the municipal administration, namely an Open Air Restaurant, the largest in the Greater Region in terms of show cooking, which took place on 7 July 2024, and the participation fees paid by the various exhibitors and the sale of Christmas trees at the 2024 Christmas Market.

The organisation thanked Michel Raguet, who took the initiative for this donation. In the past, the retired hairdresser and a team of eight volunteer hairdressers supported the association by organising a well-being day during which they beautified many disadvantaged people and put a smile on their faces. Alexandra Oxacelay took the opportunity to thank the staff of the local authority and the generous exhibitors at the Christmas market.
