St George's International School Luxembourg has reported that it teamed up with Amazon on Monday 16 December 2024 to support local charities.

More than 130 students and staff from St George's teamed up with 40 volunteers from Amazon on Monday to pack more than 800 boxes with essential supplies to distribute to Luxembourg charities during the festive season.

Throughout November and December 2024, St George's students collected donations for children and adults who use the services of the Luxembourg Red Cross, Le Courage, Night Shelter for Women, Street Angels and LUkraine. In parallel, Amazon Global Procurement collected donations of essential items through its 3,000+ Amazon employees based in Luxembourg.

The St George’s donations, which included toiletries, games and toys, were placed in shoeboxes and gift wrapped with personal notes to the recipients. Students prepared more than 300 shoeboxes, which were added to a further 500 kits donated by Amazon in Luxembourg, containing items such as non-perishable food and hygiene products. Amazon also announced a €5,000 cash donation to support each charity in their efforts for the community.

The collaboration was organised by the St George's school community and members of Amazon's Global Procurement Organization (some of whom are parents of St George's students) through the company's global giving-back campaign "Every Plate Matters".

St George's Headteacher of Secondary Claire Simmonds said campaigns such as this helped to spread awareness in the school community of the "incredible work" done by charities in Luxembourg. "I am proud that our school is supporting the Christmas Shoebox Appeal and bringing comfort and joy to people of all ages in need across Luxembourg. Together we can make a meaningful difference," Ms Simmonds commented.

Students Carolina (Year 13) and Amanda (Year 12), both of whom are members of St George's Student Parliament, said: "Our whole school came together for this amazing charity project. Student leaders from both Primary and Secondary took the lead and we're hoping it will make a real impact through our contributions."

"At Amazon, we believe in the power of collaboration with suppliers, employees and local partners such as schools to make a meaningful difference in communities where we operate," noted Virginie Vast, Head of Community Impact for Amazon's Global Procurement Organization. "Today's event in partnership with St George's is a prime example of how we can amplify our impact by working together to make a difference, one meal at a time. We're not just providing immediate relief to thousands of people in need - we're supporting the ongoing efforts of local non-profit organisations to combat poverty and improve lives.”

Every Plate Matters is a global campaign in more than 23 countries that runs from 1 October to 31 December 2024. Through the campaign, Amazon has partnered with suppliers, schools and non-profits to donate essential items that are then prepared, packed and delivered to people in need to address hunger in local communities.
