Luxembourg non-profit organisation SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde has announced that it is joining the "Giving Tuesday" global generosity movement for the fourth consecutive year.
SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde will celebrate Giving Tuesday on 3 December 2024 - the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States. This global day of generosity was born in the US in response to the excesses of Black Friday.
SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde is once again raising awareness of its charitable work for vulnerable children around the world and is calling for solidarity. This year's campaign will support students in Morocco through a post-emergency project created following the earthquake of September 2023.
On this occasion, the Luxembourg NGO said it wishes to bring together as many people as possible (partners, companies, individuals, volunteers, etc.) for this generosity campaign. Everyone can participate in their own way through a solidarity activity, a message to share, a volunteer action or a donation.
Since 2021, SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde has been able to raise more than €28,000 to support children affected by major crises, particularly in Madagascar, Colombia and Ethiopia. The NGO said it hopes for renewed solidarity in 2024, as wars and crises multiply and many children need to be able to create strong bonds, to be protected and supported, and to go to school.
The Giving Tuesday 2024 campaign will help support students in Aït Ourir, near Marrakech, Morocco: a mixed college and a boarding school for girls will be built near the SOS Children's Village of Aït Ourir. This project will promote access to education for students, especially girls, in a region where school dropout rates are high, especially since the earthquake, and will encourage quality and inclusive education. Work is expected to begin this autumn.
SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde said it welcomes any donation, fundraising or creative message on social media (using hashtags #GivingTuesday and #NoChildAlone, and tagging @sosvillagesdenfantsmonde).
As was also the case last year, the NGO will be present at the Cloche d'Or shopping centre in Luxembourg-Gasperich this Giving Tuesday (3 December).
