On Wednesday 15 November 2023, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) and Mérite Jeunesse Luxembourg signed a partnership agreement, in the presence of Prince Guillaume, the Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg and President of the Fondation Mérite Jeunesse Luxembourg, and Lydie Polfer, Mayor of Luxembourg City and President of the CGDIS Board of Directors.

This collaboration aims to promote education, personal development and community engagement among young people. It now offers participants in the Mérite Jeunesse programme (part of the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award) the opportunity to get involved in the volunteering, sport and talent and skills categories within the CGDIS.

The ceremony began with an introduction to Mérite Jeunesse Luxembourg, highlighting its mission and objectives. Prince Guillaume then explained in detail the programme, its components and the advantages it offers to participants aged fourteen to 25 years old.

Samuel Mendes, CGDIS member and gold level winner of the Mérite Jeunesse programme, shared his personal experience as a beneficiary of the programme. His testimony illustrated the positive impacts and opportunities that this partnership brings to young people.

The CGDIS young firefighters pedagogy service then presented the Mérite Jeunesse engagement process, highlighting the CGDIS's commitment to providing tutors dedicated to supporting young participants in their journey.

Finally, representatives of Mérite Jeunesse Luxembourg and the CGDIS signed the partnership agreement, thus formalising their shared commitment to the education and development of young people.
