Stëmm vun der Strooss, a local non-profit organisation which supports homeless people and vulnerable members of society, has reported that the City of Echternach recently donated €3,000 to support the renovation of the former's social restaurant in Ettelbruck.

In the presence of the Mayor of Echternach, Yves Wengler, the Director of Stëmm vun der Strooss, Alexandra Oxacelaya, received a cheque for €3,000 at Echternach Town Hall on Friday 27 January 2023.

Stëmm vun der Strooss confirmed that this donation would be used to finance part of the renovation of the non-profit's new social restaurant at 47 Rue Prince Henri in Ettelbruck. The new facility is scheduled to open its doors in early February 2023.

Instead of sending New Year's greetings cards this year, the representatives of the City of Echternach decided to support Stëmm vun der Strooss and thus the most vulnerable members of society. As Alexandra Oxacelay pointed out, "the Grand Duchy is not an island, as social phenomena such as poverty, homelessness, prostitution and drug use do not spare our country either."

Alexandra Oxacelay recalled that Stëmm vun der Strooss has been present in Ettelbruck since March 2022, serving meals in a car park opposite the train station. She explained to the representatives of the City of Echternach that the need for such services is real, as illustrated by the fact that the non-profit had distributed a total of 6,759 meals to a daily average of 50 people as of September 2022.
