On Thursday 16 December 2021, Luxembourg based Soroptimist Club "Melusina" Donated €8,000 to the Fondation Follereau; the club raised the donation through Christmas market charity work.
The donation is intended for two projects to support women and girls against female genital mutilation and gender-specific violence.
The Fondation Follereau works with their local partner organisations in Burkina Faso and in Mali. In these projects, girls and women who are excised will receive medical assistance, psychological support and the opportunity, if they wish, to receive surgical care.
Those that are involved and engaged in female genital mutilation, and the communities that carry on this tradition, are made aware of through awareness and information campaigns about the consequences, some of which are only noticeable years later. This can often provoke a change of mentality that leads people to stop calling this practice good. At the moment, the Fondation Follereau offers a professional alternative for those carry out these acts.
The Foundation thanked all the members of the Soroptimist Club Melusina on behalf of the teams in Luxembourg and Africa and in particular, the beneficiaries of the projects.
