Caritas Luxembourg has released emergency funds to beneficiaries of its various services who have been affected by the recent flooding.
Following the floods, rersidents of the Centre de l’Oseraie of Caritas Luxembourg in Kopstal had to be evacuated urgently overnight. The Centre de l’Oseraie hosts around fifteen people living in very precarious conditions. Most of them are homeless and live there in order to be able to carry out their social reintegration project. The centre was completely flooded and residents were evacuated to an emergency reception facility.
Caritas Luxembourg has thanked everyone, including the Ministry of Family Affairs, who made it possible to find a quick solution to rehouse these people for whom this disaster is an additional difficulty in their already complicated lives. The national emergency fund of Caritas Luxembourg has been activated and will support them.
Another service that has been affected by the floods is the Caritas Buttek in Diekirch. Caritas Luxembourg confirmed that the social grocery store had to be closed at the request of the municipality in view of the flooding of the River Alzette.
To continue providing assistance to families in need who depend on the social grocery store in Diekirch for food, Caritas Luxembourg has released funds and launched a helpline (tel.: 402131-918). Beneficiaries of the social grocery store can request vouchers so that they can do their shopping in supermarkets in the region and thus meet their most urgent needs whilst the social grocery store is closed.
At present, Caritas Luxembourg has not identified any specific material need (clothing, furniture, etc.). Anyone wishing to support this local non-profit organisation can do so by making a donation to the CCPL bank account: IBAN LU34 1111 0000 2020 0000 with the reference “Soutien Caritas”.
