Fondation Cancer has relaunched its "Make the right choice" healthy eating awareness campaign in Luxembourg.

With the return to school after the summer holidays, often associated with excess such as frequent barbecues, Fondation Cancer is bringing back its campaign to recall the importance of regaining healthy eating habits.

The Luxembourg NGO aims to educate the population on an unbalanced diet and being overweight as risk factors for cancer. Indeed, excess weight constitutes the second main risk factor for cancer, after smoking. As such, it is important to adopt healthy and varied eating habits, limit the consumption of high-calorie foods and avoid sugary drinks, vary fruits and vegetables (which must make up half of the plate), replace cereals with whole grains (which are richer in dietary fibre and nutrients) and explore the diversity of protein sources. The campaign also emphasises the dangers posed by frequent consumption of processed and red meat, which are associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer.

Fondation Cancer director Lucienne Thommes commented: "Avoid weight gain by consuming the right amount of food, this is the most important message in terms of cancer prevention".

As part of this campaign, three visuals, a quiz, a video and a dedicated landing page have been developed to offer advice on adopting good eating habits.
