The Luxembourg Red Cross has called for solidarity with the most vulnerable despite the cancellation of "Mois du Don" (Donation Month) 2020.

This marks the first time in 75 years that Donation Month has been cancelled. Nevertheless, the Luxembourg Red Cross has called on the resident population to show solidarity with the most vulnerable, under the slogan "Hëlleft eis Hëllefen" (help us to help). Its teams are more than ever mobilised, on the ground and continue to protect and help those who need it.

The energy of employees and volunteers is entirely directed towards the implementation of solutions allowing to continue to carry out the missions as best as possible, while respecting the instructions aimed at limiting the spread of the epidemic which have been issued by the competent authorities.

While health professionals are on the front line, in direct contact with the sick, the injured and dependent people, others are taking action by distributing meals on wheels in refugee homes, providing social services and counselling services for children and families in difficulty, psychological and therapeutic support services, working in social grocery stores and working in childcare facilities which remain open for children of caregivers or in homes with children who cannot return to their families.

It was in this spirit of acting for the dignity of those who need it most that the decision not to hold this year's Donation Month was made. This cancellation is a first for an event that has taken place every year since the end of the Second World War. Another national solidarity meeting could possibly be organised later in the year depending on developments in the current crisis.

The management of the Luxembourg Red Cross has confirmed that it is fully aware of the consequences that this choice will ultimately have on the funding of certain services, particularly dependent on the sums usually collected in April. However, its main priority remains the protection of the most vulnerable, and even more so in the midst of a pandemic.

All those who wish to help the Luxembourg Red Cross to continue its work can do so by making a donation via bank transfer to the account IBAN LU52 1111 0000 1111 0000.
