Auchan has raised €26,600 in favour of Luxembourg NGO SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde (SOSVEM).
After a traditional back-to-school action that took place from 3-21 September 2019 in the three Auchan hypermarkets and in their shopping centres, the managers of Auchan invited two representatives of SOSVEM, Director Sophie Glesener and Partnerships Manager Anne Schweizer, to receive a cheque for €26,600.
The ceremony, held symbolically on 10 December, International Human Rights Day, in the Auchan Cloche d'Or Lifestore. The heads of the customer service sector of the three Auchan hypermarkets, Julien Diot, Pierre-Alexandre Durand and Peggy Kieffer, as well as the hostesses who greatly contributed to the success of this action were present on this occasion.
Sophie Glesener who spoke about the programmes supported this year in Iraq, Lebanon and Syria, stated: “On behalf of our team, I would like to warmly thank the management and the teams of the Auchan hypermarkets and the associated galleries, which once again enabled this great success of this solidarity action, which highlights the essential role of education in the life of each child and their vital role for those living in conflict zones and those who have been forced into exile. In the Middle East as in other regions of the world, our association is firmly committed to supporting education in emergencies inseparable from the protection of children".
Like last year, the Auchan action focussed on education in emergencies in the Middle East, a region struck by terrible conflicts and major crises which still today prevent countless children from follow normal schooling. Guaranteeing them access to education is considered essential to enable them to overcome their traumas, find their bearings and hope to be able to build a future.
Besides the fundraising it generates, the Auchan action is also an opportunity for SOSVEM to raise awareness of this essential education, which is a fundamental right and an essential link in development.
