Luxembourg's first Race for the Cure® event, organised by Think Pink Lux, saw 300 participants brave the rain on Sunday to run and walk around Echternach Lake, raising a total of €8,000 for the cause.

Last year, the NGO Think Pink Lux made the decision to team up with Think Pink Europe to facilitate the exchange of information and best practices on health care and research in Europe with the aim of reducing disparities in access to health care between European countries. This year, for the first time Think Pink Lux joined Think Pink Europe in hosting a Race for the Cure 6km walk/run.

The Luxembourg edition took place on Sunday 20 October 2019 in Echternach and was a great success thanks to the efforts of the 300 participants, a team of dedicated volunteers, sponsors and cooperation from the municipality of Echternach and the Echternach Youth Hostel.

The Race for the Cure event is a fundraising event that unites people all over the world. In its efforts to be more environmentally friendly, Think Pink Lux also made sure it did not use plastic number bibs, balloons, single use plastics, disposables or chemical toilets on this occasion. Participants were requested to bring their own drinks as bottled water was not provided. Bottles could be refilled at the youth hostel.

The Race for the Cure is not a race against competitors, but rather a race against time. It is a race to find a cure for breast cancer. Indeed, most of the funds raised will remain in Luxembourg for Think Pink Lux projects with 20% of sponsorship going to Think Pink Europe for a community project to provide screening and diagnostic services where they are lacking.

Plans are already underway for a second edition in Luxembourg next year.
