The Lycée technique de Bonnevoie (LTB) has raised €1,150 for Luxembourg NGO Stëmm vun der Strooss thanks to its charity run.
On Friday 8 March 2019, the LTB secondary school organised a charity run against poverty on the initiative of the graduating class 1TPCM1. The class was named LGA Helping Team for this project and the aim was to collect clothes and receive financial support, the proceeds of which were then donated to the non-profit organisation Stëmm vun der Strooss.
On 22 March, the school handed over the cheque to the director of Stëmm vun der Strooss Alexandra Oxacelay, during a ceremony in the LTB ballroom. When asked why they wanted to donate the proceeds to the charity, the students involved responded: "A stroke of fate and being forced to live on the street can happen to anyone. We do not like to think about it, but unfortunately it's still a reality! "
The school organised the charity run on a voluntary basis across 2-3 kilometres. It also set up an information booth on Stëmm vun the Strooss, as well as a stall with home-baked treats. However, the weather thwarted their plans just before the start of the race and so the entire event was relocated to the school's sports hall. Here, around 80 students and teachers, under the supervision of sports teachers, ran their rounds to support the charity. During the so-called "Laaf géint d'Aarmut", students also sold cakes and organised a raffle, the proceeds of which also contributed to this donation. In addition, during a tour in every class, the students collected €1 or €2 from each participant in the run.
In addition to raising the sum of €1,150, the initiative resulted in a full van with clothes, about 40 filled boxes, which will be distributed for free in the Kleederstuff of the Stëmm vun der Strooss in Hollerich and Esch-sur-Alzette to disadvantaged people.
