On Wednesday 9 January 2019, the beneficiaries and staff of Luxembourg NGO Stëmm vun der Strooss gathered for a meal at the Astoria restaurant in Kayl.
Upon their arrival, Pino Parrota, the owner of the Italian pizzeria located in the centre of Kayl personally greeted each guest. The beneficiaries and supervisory staff from Stëmm vun der Strooss went on to enjoy homemade dishes from Italian gastronomy at the restaurant.
The guests enjoyed 65 meals in total, consisting of a starter, a main course and a dessert.
Pino Parrota came up with the initiative of organising this meal for the disadvantaged after the reading the story of Cyrill Hohl, master hairdresser and manager of the Avant Garde hair salon, in the press. Three years ago, the latter offered his services to the beneficiaries of the Stëmm vun der Strooss. Touched by this gesture, Pino Parrota decided to follow his example. He is now in the third consecutive year of offering meals to those in need.
Indeed, Pino Parrota believes that the job of restaurateur is also to share knowledge and what we receive and to present dishes to those who cannot normally afford them. It has been 27 years since he opened his restaurant, having moved to Luxembourg over 30 years ago from Italy.
Most of the people who took part in the meal on 9 January are regulars of the Stëmm vun der Strooss. Touched by the customers who thanked him, Pino Parrota has already set a date for the meal next year. He intends to remain a partner of Stëmm vun der Strooss.
