Cattenom Nuclear Power Plant operator EDF-CNPE has reported that production unit 1 of the nuclear power plant was preventively shut down on the night of Friday 31 July to Saturday 1 August 2026 in order to comply with environmental regulations.

According to EDF-CNPE, the adaptation of production at the nuclear power plant followed a decrease in the flow of the Moselle river, from which water is used to cool the plant, and was caused by the climatic conditions observed across recent weeks.

Accordingly, production unit number 1 of the Cattenom nuclear power plant was preventively shut down on Friday night.

Production unit number 3 is currently in operation and supplies the national electricity grid, while production units number 2 and number 4 are at a standstill as part of their scheduled maintenance operations.
