The regular season of Luxembourg's Enovos Basketball League continued over the weekend with the men's teams playing Game Day 21 and the women's league's fifth game day of the second round of the championship.
Women's Enovos League: T71 Dudelange Secure Final Playoff Spot
With two rounds remaining in the regular season of Luxembourg's top-tier women's basketball championship, the four teams set to compete for the title have been confirmed. T71 Dudelange secured the final playoff spot, thanks to a home victory over Amicale Steesel - their direct rival for the fourth position in the standings.
The home side trailed after the first quarter but managed to level the score by halftime, with both teams heading into the break at 43:43. However, the second half saw Dudelange take full control, securing a commanding 100:77 victory. This result improved their record to eleven wins and eight losses, while Amicale Steesel now hold the opposite record, with eight victories and eleven defeats. T71 Dudelange forward Lauren Anne Van Kleunen was the game's top scorer, delivering an impressive 37-point performance.
Meanwhile, Sparta Bertrange (14:5) maintained their position as the second-ranked team in the standings, keeping a gap between themselves and closest challenger AB Contern (13:6). Sparta claimed an away victory over Basket Esch with a convincing 95:66 scoreline. The visitors saw six players register double-digit points, while guard Regan Hayes Schenck stood out with a double-double performance, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
In a comment to Chronicle.lu, Sparta Bertrange captain Lena Mersch, who contributed 15 points, shared her thoughts on the game: "The first half was not good. We were lacking energy in defence. I mean, they also hit a lot of shots against us. They made a lot of shots. I think the key factor was that in the second half, we were more aggressive, pressing, and contesting their shots."
In the final two games, 28-year-old Mersch also believes victory is possible: "We play Dudelange next, and then after the Cup Final, we will play against Amicale Steesel. For sure, we want to win both games. Dudelange will be tougher than this one, but I think we have already shown a couple of times that we can beat these teams. I'm looking forward to it, and I believe we can get this win."
The undefeated leader of the Women's Enovos League secured its 19th victory of the season with an away win against sixth-placed Les Sangliers Wooltz (5:14). Gréngewald Hueschtert claimed their biggest away victory of the season with a dominant 110:68 performance. Amanda Brooke Cahill led the charge, contributing a game-high 27 points to her team's success.
