The Banque et Caisse d'Épargne de l'État (BCEE), or Spuerkeess in Luxembourgish, today announced that its customers can now use Apple Pay for their in-store and online payments.

Luxembourg's leading retail bank has introduced Apple Pay to offer customers a "simple, secure and confidential payment" method. Spuerkeess customers can now pay in-store, in-app and on the internet with Apple Pay from their iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad or Mac.

Apple Pay is based on two pillars: security and confidentiality. When a customer uses a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the card number is never stored on the device or Apple servers. Indeed, a device account unique number ("Device Account Number") is associated with the card, before being encrypted and stored securely in the "Secure Element" component of the device. Each transaction is authenticated using a transaction-specific dynamic security code.

Apple Pay is rather easy to set up and allows users to continue to enjoy all the benefits of Mastercard and Visa credit cards as well as V Pay debit cards.
