On Monday 3 February 2025, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Gender Equality and Diversity announced the recipients of its municipal prize, awarded to one or more municipalities that have demonstrated their commitment to promoting gender equality and diversity within their communities.
Each year, the ministry awards its municipal prize. Through innovative initiatives or activities with a broad impact on the population, these municipalities serve as role models for others across the country, showcasing the success of a proactive municipal policy in advancing gender equality and diversity.
For the 2024 edition of the municipal prize, five municipalities were recognised for their efforts in promoting gender equality and diversity: Leudelange; Roeser; Mondercange; Schuttrange; Rosport-Mompach.
During the award ceremony, Yuriko Backes, Luxembourg’s Minister for Gender Equality and Diversity, congratulated the winning municipalities for their commitment and emphasised that efforts towards a more tolerant, respectful and equal society begin within local communities. She highlighted the key role municipalities play in implementing a coherent policy for gender equality and diversity.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Diversity noted that, in addition to receiving an official certificate recognising their achievement, each winning municipality is also awarded a financial contribution from the ministry. This funding is intended to support new initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality and diversity within their communities.
Since 2020, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Diversity has awarded the municipal prize annually to deserving municipalities, with a total of twelve municipalities recognised since the first edition of the award.
