On Monday 25 November 2024, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Culture announced the shortlist of nominees for this year’s Luxembourg Music Awards (Lëtzebuerger Musekspraïsser) which will take place on Thursday 19 December 2024 at the Philharmonie in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.
Luxembourg’s Minister of Culture, Eric Thill, announced that this year’s awards will be in seven different categories, including the National Music Award (Nationale Musekspräis), which will be presented to an artist in recognition of their career, work and commitment to Luxembourgish music. The winner will receive €10,000.
In the other categories, the prizes refer to achievements over the past three years. Those active in the music sector in Luxembourg, Luxembourg nationals, residents or those with Luxembourg cultural heritage are eligible for the awards.
There are two rounds to the selection procedure. For the first round, 82 “nominators” and music professionals were invited to submit their entry. A shortlist of candidates was established from these nominations.
The nominees for the Luxembourg Music Prize, Nowuesstalent (Emerging Talent) category are: Daniel Migliosi; Ninon; DJ Nosi; Naomi Aye; Veda Bartringer. This prize rewards a promising career, distinguished by its dynamism and the excellence of its recent achievements. The winner will receive €2,500.
The nominees for the Luxembourg Music Prize, category Op der Bün (On Stage) – Amplified Music are: Francis of Delirium; C’est Karma; Chaild; Them Lights; Chris Maas. This prize, of €3,500, rewards one or more artists (performers and authors/authors-composers) who have contributed in a significant way to the amplified music sector in the past three years.
The nominees for the Luxembourg Music Prize, category Op der Bün - Classical Music are: Cathy Krier; Lucilin; Francesco Tristano; Kammerata; Pascal Schumacher. This prize, also worth €3,500, rewards one or more artists (performers and authors/authors-composers) who have contributed in a significant way to the classical music sector in the past three years.
The nominees for the Luxembourg Music Prize, category Op der Bün - Amplified Music (jazz/blues/world) are: Claire Parsons; Pol Belardi; Daniel Migliosi; Jérôme Klein / KLEIN; Kid Colling Cartel. This €3,500 prize rewards one or more artists (performers and authors/authors-composers) who have contributed in a significant way to the jazz/blues/world music sector in the past three years.
The nominees for the Luxembourg Music Prize category Hannert der Bün (Behind the Stage) are: Charles Stolz; Tun Tonnar; Nina Schaeffer; Tom Gatti; Beast. This prize, of €3,500, honours the creative work of an individual or a team, behind the scenes, during the last three years (sound engineer, lighting technician, manager, show producer, booker, editor, administrator, etc.).
The nominees for the Luxembourg Music Prize, category Fräizäitmusek (Leisure Music) are: Hunneg-Strëpp; Koll an Aktioun; Orchestre National des Jeunes (National Youth Orchestra); Bouneweger Musek; Orchestre de la Place d'Europe. This €2,500 prize rewards exceptional merit and lasting commitment of one or of a group of people involved in music during their leisure time, in a non-professional capacity.
The National Music Award as well as the winner(s) of each of the other categories are decided in a second round by a jury of music professionals. The jury is composed of: Pit Brosius, conductor of the National Youth Orchestra and professor at the Conservatoire du Nord; Vanessa Cum, cultural coordinator of the City of Luxembourg and President of the ASBL Fête de la Musique; Thomas Faber, Maz Universe, professional musician and laureate of the 2022 edition; Marie Trussart, classical music editor at Radio 100.7 / Opus 100.7: Georges Urwald, musician, composer, arranger and musical education professor. The secretariat of the jury is assured by Joé Haas of the Ministry of Culture.
The artists will also receive an original trophy created by the artist Laurie Lamborelle.
The ceremony, organised in collaboration with the Philharmonie, will take place in the presence of the Minister of Culture and numerous artists.
