On Thursday 5 November 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported two arrests following a burglary at a construction site in Esch-sur-Alzette and an attempted break-in at a residential property in Garnich earlier this week.

At approximately 07:30 on Monday 2 November 2026, police received a report of a burglary at a construction site container on Rue de l'Eglise in Esch-sur-Alzette.

A worker alerted police after spotting a suspicious person inside the container. Investigations revealed that two suspects had forced their way in through a window overnight. Officers detained both at the scene and recovered stolen items from one of them, which were returned to their owner.

On the orders of the Public Prosecutor's Office, both suspects were arrested and brought before an investigating judge.

Another incident occurred on Wednesday 4 November 2026, at approximately 19:10, police received a report of an attempted burglary at a detached house on Rue Abbé Edouard in Garnich.

A neighbour had noticed two suspicious men entering the rear of the neighbouring property through a garden gate. When the neighbour went to investigate, both men fled.

Officers subsequently discovered damage to a cellar door and a terrace window, including signs of forced entry on the cellar door. Police believe the suspects abandoned the attempted burglary after the neighbour disturbed them.

Several police units and a helicopter were deployed to search for the suspects but the initial operation was unsuccessful.

Police issue burglary prevention advice

Following several burglaries and thefts from residential buildings, police reminded residents to take additional precautions during autumn and winter, when darkness falls earlier.

Police advised residents to secure all doors and windows, including those of garages, cellars and outbuildings and to activate alarm systems even during short absences. They also recommended using timers to ensure adequate lighting in the evenings.

For longer absences, authorities encouraged residents to inform trusted neighbours and consider using the police's free "Départ en vacances" service.

Anyone noticing suspicious individuals or vehicles potentially scouting residential areas should immediately contact police on the emergency tel: 113.
