The Grand Ducal Police have reported that over the weekend of Saturday 24 to Sunday 25 October 2026, it recorded six drink-driving offences, which resulted in five driving licences being revoked.
According to the police, shortly before 19:00 on Saturday 24 October, police received a report of a vehicle travelling along the national road towards Weiler-la-Tour in a zigzag pattern and having already struck the kerb several times. A search for the vehicle was immediately launched.
Near the village of Dalheim, a loose tyre came rolling at full speed towards a police car involved in the search. Despite taking evasive action, the tyre struck the police vehicle. The officers then turned around to check the vehicles that had just passed them and eventually managed to stop the vehicle that had originally been reported, which was still driving despite having lost a tyre. The driver initially failed to respond and ultimately had to be forced to stop by braking in front of him. A breathalyser test returned a positive result, and the driver's licence was confiscated.
During a patrol through Schieren, at around 00:30 on Saturday 24 October, police officers noticed a vehicle on Route de Stegen with its lights on and engine running, partly parked on the pavement. The driver was sitting behind the wheel with their head lowered. When the officers went to check on the driver's well-being, they discovered that the person was asleep and did not respond when they knocked, forcing them to wake the driver by shaking them through the partially open window. A breathalyser test returned a positive result, and the driver's licence was confiscated.
Shortly after midnight on Sunday 25 October, a report was received of a damaged van parked at a petrol station on Boulevard Charles de Gaulle in Esch-Alzette, whose driver appeared to be preparing to drive away. A police patrol located both the van and its driver. The officers found damage to the driver's side of the van, as well as a flat tyre and a damaged wheel rim. Due to clear signs of alcohol consumption, a breathalyser test was carried out. Following the positive result, the driver's licence was confiscated.
At around 02:15, an accident occurred on Avenue de la Faïencerie in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg, where two police patrols were already present following an altercation at a nightclub. The incident had just been resolved when a van drove towards the police vehicles, which were parked there with their blue lights flashing. The van collided with one of the police vehicles, propelling it into another police car. No officers were inside the vehicles at the time; only the van's driver sustained minor injuries in the collision. The officers at the scene observed that the van driver was visibly under the influence of alcohol. Following a positive breathalyser test, the driver's licence was confiscated.
A short time later, a police patrol noticed a driver travelling in a zigzag pattern along Rue des Glacis in Luxembourg City and repeatedly veering into oncoming traffic. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was subjected to a breathalyser test. The test returned a positive result, and the driver's licence was confiscated.
In the early hours of Sunday 25 October, police received a report in Differdange concerning a female driver who was repeatedly driving onto the pavement, stopping in the middle of the road and driving with her head resting on the steering wheel. The driver was stopped and checked. However, it was not possible to carry out a breathalyser test at the scene, so she was taken to the police station.
At the station, her behaviour became increasingly confrontational. She insulted the officers and attempted to leave the premises. During the police procedures, it was established that she did not hold a valid driving licence. She also refused to take a breathalyser test, and the appropriate reports were drawn up. As she could not be calmed down, she was placed in custody following a medical examination.
