On Friday 16 October 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported that a suspect has been arrested following a fraud case where he defrauded a woman after pretending to be a bank employee.
According to the police, they were notified at around 21:30 on Tuesday 13 October of a fraud case in which unknown perpetrators posed as bank employees and defrauded a woman of a substantial sum of money. According to initial findings, the victim was first contacted by telephone. The caller claimed to be an employee of her bank.
She was then informed that a courier would collect her bank cards from her home to supposedly check or replace them. Shortly afterwards, a man arrived at her home address on Rue du Travail in Luxembourg-Beggen and collected several bank cards. After the victim had her cards blocked, it emerged that several unauthorised cash withdrawals and bank transfers had already been made.
As part of the subsequent investigation, an account to which some of the money had been transferred was identified. Some of the money was seized on Wednesday 14 October. During a subsequent search of the account holder’s home, where the money had been transferred, electronic devices and cash, among other items, were seized.
On the orders of the public prosecutor’s office, the suspect was arrested on suspicion of fraud and money laundering and brought before an investigating judge on Thursday 15 October.
The investigation is ongoing.
