On Saturday 3 October 2026, Luxembourg marks one year since Grand Duke Guillaume took the oath before the Chamber of Deputies and began his reign.
On the first anniversary of the "Trounwiessel" (throne change), the Maison du Grand-Duc looked back at some of the main events involving the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess Stéphanie during their first year as Luxembourg's Grand Ducal Couple.
Their first year began with the "Feierlech Tournée" (ceremonial tour) on 4 October 2025, which took them to Grevenmacher, Wiltz, Steinfort and Dudelange. This was followed by Joyeuses Entrées in Esch-sur-Alzette, Troisvierges and Ehnen, in the municipality of Wormeldange. Further visits are planned in Mersch and Beckerich in 2027.
According to Maison du Grand-Duc, over the past twelve months, the Grand Duke also met members of the Youth Parliament and young Ukrainians from Bucha, while the Grand Ducal Couple welcomed young people active in education, sport, culture, science and associations to one of the National Day garden parties at Berg Castle. In May 2026, the Grand Duke became Honorary Chairman of the World Scout Foundation.
The Grand Ducal Couple also took part in several charitable and community events. These included serving meals at the Vollekskichen in Luxembourg-Bonnevoie, attending the Stëmm vun der Strooss Christmas celebration and participating in the charity event supporting people affected by cancer and their families Relais pour la Vie in March 2026. During the 25th Télévie in April, the Grand Duchess visited the donation centre in Rodange, while the Grand Duke took calls from donors during the closing television programme.
The Grand Duke also visited businesses in Luxembourg and, during a visit to New York in April, presented the Luxembourg American Business Award to Plastipak.
Internationally, the Grand Ducal Couple made courtesy visits to Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, the Vatican, Spain and France. In September, they attended the Informal Meeting of Heads of State of German-speaking Countries in Austria, while the Grand Duke addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York on 22 September.
The first incoming state visit of the new reign took place on Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 September 2026, when the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess welcomed Finnish President Alexander Stubb and his wife Suzanne Innes-Stubb to Luxembourg.
According to figures published by the Maison du Grand-Duc, between 3 October 2025 and Friday 2 October 2026, the Grand Ducal Couple carried out 47 official visits and trips within Luxembourg and sixteen abroad.
Their activities also included 78 audiences and meetings with national authorities and institutions, 32 meetings with foreign and international authorities, fourteen accreditation and farewell audiences for ambassadors, eight official ceremonies and events and fifteen meetings with representatives of society and the business community.
