On Friday 18 September 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported the arrests of two men in separate cases following a serious assault and the theft of a gold chain in Luxembourg City.

During the night of Wednesday 16 September, a police patrol on Rue de Strasbourg at Luxembourg City’s central railway station became aware of a fight outside an establishment. When the officers arrived, a man was lying unconscious in the street. According to initial information, a verbal dispute had previously arisen between him and another man, followed by a physical altercation. The injured man received first aid at the scene and was subsequently taken to hospital.

The suspected perpetrator was found at the scene. Due to his heavily intoxicated and uncooperative condition, he was initially taken into police custody. By order of the public prosecutor’s office, the man was arrested. He was subsequently brought before an investigating judge on Wednesday afternoon. The investigating judge issued an arrest warrant and the man was taken to the remand detention centre.

On Thursday 17 September, the theft of a gold chain on Place du Théâtre in Luxembourg City was reported to the police. According to initial information, two unknown men approached the victim and his companion on Rue des Capucins. One of the two spoke to the victim and moved closer to him. Shortly afterwards, the victim noticed that the gold chain he had previously been wearing was missing.

The man gave chase and managed to catch up with one of the two suspects in the area of Place du Théâtre and detain him until the police arrived. The second suspect managed to flee. By order of the public prosecutor’s office, the man was arrested and brought before an investigating judge the following morning.

Further investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
