The Grand Ducal Police have reported that on Tuesday 23 June 2026, the occasion of National Day, several violent muggings occurred across Luxembourg-Ville and two people taken to hospital following an assault in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg which involved a knife.
According to the police, at approximately 02:00 on Tuesday a man was approached on Rue Philippe II, near the intersection with Avenue Monterey, by an unknown individual who asked him for a light to smoke a cigarette. When the victim attempted to hand over his lighter, the suspect grabbed his arm and forcibly tore the victim's watch from his wrist.
At approximately 03:40, police were informed of a violent mobile phone theft. According to the police, the incident had occurred some time before the police received an emergency call from the Municipal Park in Luxembourg-Ville. A person reported that their companion had been provoked by a group of individuals. He responded to the provocations, which then escalated into a physical altercation.
During the fight, the victim sustained a cut to his left leg that required hospital treatment and his mobile phone was stolen. The perpetrators fled the scene. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
In another incident, police were called to investigate an assault at 18 Rue de l’Eau. According to the initial information, at approximately 05:30 on Tuesday, a man was attacked in the entrance area of an apartment building. He suffered a cut to the neck which, according to preliminary findings, was caused by an assault with a broken glass bottle. The injury was deemed superficial and not life-threatening.
The victim was unable to recall the exact circumstances of the attack but a gold chain was missing from his possessions. Police have opened an investigation and secured evidence at the scene. The victim was transported to the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL) for further treatment and was able to leave the hospital later that evening. The Public Prosecutor's Office was informed.
Later on Tuesday, at approximately 22:15, an incident occurred on Allée Scheffer adjacent the free City Sounds concert taking place in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg, during which two people were injured with a bladed weapon.
According to the initial information, the first person sustained minor cuts, while the second suffered a life-threatening injury to the neck area. Both victims received immediate emergency medical treatment from paramedics and were subsequently transported to hospital.
The police said that the circumstances surrounding this incident are currently unclear; however, two suspects have been apprehended. The investigation is ongoing and the Public Prosecutor's Office has been informed.
