Luxembourg’s prison administration has reported that on the afternoon of Thursday 21 May 2026, at around 15:00, a prisoner was found dead in his cell at the Luxembourg Prison Centre (CPL).
The administration reported that despite several attempts, the prisoner could not be resuscitated. The judicial authorities were informed and an autopsy was ordered.
The prison administration stated that the prisoner’s family members will be informed of his death.
The Ombudsman, in its capacity as external monitor of places of deprivation of liberty, the Deputy Director General of the Prison Administration, the Director of the Luxembourg Prison Centre, the Grand Ducal Police, as well as the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), were present at the scene.
