The Grand Ducal Police have reported arrests for instances of assault involving a knife, unsociable behaviour and pickpocketing which occurred in Esch-sur-Alzette and Luxembourg City between Friday 15 and Sunday 17 May 2026.
According to the police, on the evening of Friday 15 May, they received a report concerning a fight between two men inside a shopping centre on Rue de l’Alzette in Esch-sur-Alzette. During the incident, one of the two men was injured in the shoulder with a knife. The victim and the suspected perpetrator were both located by a police patrol. The victim was taken to hospital and the suspected weapon was secured not far from the scene. On the instructions of the public prosecutor’s office, the suspect was arrested and brought before an investigating judge on the morning of Friday 16 May.
On Saturday 16 May, at approximately 19:10, the police in Esch-sur-Alzette received a report concerning a man in a premises on Rue du Brill who had allegedly thrown a glass at a member of staff. The employee sustained minor injuries and the man subsequently left the scene. Shortly afterwards, he was located by the police in a nearby street. As he behaved uncooperatively towards the officers, issued threats, and due to his intoxicated state posed a danger to himself and others, it was decided to place him under arrest to allow him to sober-up. A report relating to the earlier offence was subsequently drawn up by the officers.
Moreover, on Sunday 17 May, the police received a report concerning an altercation on Rue Aldringen in Luxembourg-Ville. According to the initial information, the incident had been preceded by a pickpocketing in a nearby establishment, during which a suspect stole the victim’s wallet. When the victim noticed the theft and confronted the suspect, the suspect returned the wallet and then attempted to flee. The victim briefly restrained the suspect, during which the reported altercation occurred. The suspect was subsequently apprehended by a police patrol shortly afterwards and taken to the police station. Further investigations are ongoing.
