The Grand Ducal Police have reported on a number of road incidents which occurred across Luxembourg between Sunday 17 and Monday 18 May 2026.

At approximately 17:00 on Sunday 17 May, the police received a report concerning a driver who drove onto a traffic island at a junction on the N8 in Reckange and collided with a traffic sign and a streetlamp. A police patrol located the driver shortly afterwards. She showed clear signs of alcohol consumption. An alcohol test returned a positive result and a provisional driving ban was issued. The driver was taken to hospital for examination and an accident report was drawn up.

Later, at approximately 18:40, the police received a report concerning a vehicle on the N18 in Boxhorn (Wincrange) which was being driven erratically and had crashed into a wall, crossing onto the opposite carriageway. A police patrol located the driver shortly afterwards. He showed clear signs of alcohol consumption. An alcohol test carried out on the driver returned a positive result and a provisional driving ban was issued.

During the night of Monday 18 May, the police received a report concerning a vehicle in Rue de Hesperange in Luxembourg-Bonnevoie due to dangerous driving. A police patrol located the driver shortly afterwards and established that the vehicle was heavily damaged. The driver then stated that a road traffic accident involving material damage had occurred earlier. As the driver showed clear signs of alcohol consumption, he was subjected to an alcohol test. The result was positive and a provisional driving ban was issued.

Also, during the early hours of Monday 18 May, a police patrol carrying out a speed check on Route de Luxembourg in Dudelange noticed a vehicle travelling at excessive speed. The officers instructed the driver to stop using clear signals, whereupon the driver suddenly turned the vehicle around and fled at high speed. The officers began pursuing the vehicle.

Due to the wet road surface, the police vehicle collided with two parked vehicles in Rue Gaffelt. Near Rue Karl Marx, the fleeing driver also lost control of the vehicle and left the road. In doing so, the driver damaged the steps at the entrance of a house. The driver continued fleeing towards the border and the crashed vehicle was eventually located without the driver shortly beyond the border in France. A search for the driver produced no result.
