Luxembourg's Prison Administration has reported that an inmate deliberately started a fire at the Centre pénitentiaire de Luxembourg (CPL), also known as Schrassig Prison, on Friday 8 May 2026.
The fire broke out at around 15:45 on Friday. According to the authorities, the blaze was quickly brought under control "thanks to the swift and professional intervention" of the prison officers on site.
No injuries were reported, although the material damage is "significant".
The judicial authorities, the Grand Ducal Police and the Ombudsman, in its capacity as external supervisor of places of detention, have been informed. A judicial investigation has been launched.
