On Tuesday 22 July 2025, Luxembourg’s Ministry of the Economy reported that as part of the bankruptcy proceedings for Liberty Steel Dudelange, the Government Council (Cabinet) has decided to submit a formal bid to the bankruptcy receiver to acquire the site.

According to the ministry, after nearly three years of inactivity, the site could be redeveloped to maximise the use of available space and assign it a new purpose to support economic development.

The ministry remarked that if the offer is accepted, it will undertake the redevelopment of the land with the aim of establishing new industrial activities and promoting the creation of high value-added jobs.

Moreover, the government will consider allocating part of the site to defence-related projects.
