The Grand Ducal Police have reported that on Friday 13 June 2025, at approximately 12:30, they received a report that a man had not returned to shore after swimming in the Remerschen lakes (“Baggerweieren”), located near Schengen.
According to the report, emergency services immediately launched a search operation involving several police patrols, rescue teams, police divers and the police helicopter.
Rescuers recovered the man from the water shortly afterwards. However, despite immediate resuscitation efforts, the 63-year-old man was pronounced dead.
Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
