On Wednesday 21 May 2025, the Grand Ducal Police issued a statement warning of fake banking websites.

The police said they recently received reports of several cases in which online banking users had fallen victim to fake, yet seemingly authentic, online banking portals. Victims typically access these fraudulent websites by using a search engine and then clicking on the displayed link.

The police emphasised that, for security reasons, online banking transactions should always be carried out either through the bank's official app or through the official URL of the online banking portal. They advised bookmarking the official web address of the online banking portal in one's browser, adding that online banking portals should never be accessed via a link displayed in a search engine.

Moreover, the police called on members of the public to inform and raise awareness among older citizens about this scam.

Anyone who has suffered harm due to such fraudulent websites is asked to contact a police station (listed here).
