
On Monday 12 May 2025, the Directorate of Immigration of Luxembourg's Ministry of Home Affairs published figures regarding applications for international protection (asylum) and temporary protection in the Grand Duchy in April 2025.
International Protection
A total of 128 people applied for international protection in Luxembourg in April 2025, (down from 134 in March 2025 but up from 119 in April 2024). To date this year, Luxembourg has received a total of 619 applications for international protection - up from 577 received during the same period in 2024.
The Directorate took 151 decisions on asylum applications in April 2025, with 60 applicants being granted refugee status (22 in March). So far in 2025, most applications have come from Syrian nationals (99), followed by Eritreans (75), Algerians (61), Colombians (40), Moroccans (29) and Venezuelans (24).
Temporary Protection
A total of 75 people applied for temporary protection in Luxembourg in April 2025 (up from 63 in March). So far this year, Luxembourg has received a total of 328 such applications. The Directorate took a total of 70 decisions on temporary protection applications in April with 62 applicants being granted this status in Luxembourg (56 in March); 8 were rejected.
Most new applicants in April were Ukrainian nationals (296). The ministry received applications from seventeen Algerian nationals and another fifteen from unspecified countries in April 2025.
