The Grand Ducal Police have reported that officers apprehended an armed man in a bank in Luxembourg-Kirchberg on Monday morning.

At around 09:25 on Monday 5 May 2025, the police received reports of a man with a gun in a bank on Avenue J.-F. Kennedy. Police officers quickly apprehended the suspect. The building was evacuated for security reasons.

Further police investigations are currently underway.

Update: The Grand Ducal Police provided additional information on Monday afternoon. They noted that several police units, including the Luxembourg police station, the RGB ("Répression du grand banditisme") unit of the criminal investigation department and the special police unit, had gone to the scene and were able to arrest the man. Initial investigations revealed that the weapon was a dummy gun.

The building was evacuated for security reasons for the duration of the operation and the street was closed to traffic. No one was injured in the incident. On the orders of the public prosecutor's office, the suspect was detained and an arrest warrant was requested. The suspect will be brought before an investigating judge on the morning of Tuesday 6 May 2025 and will be charged with various offences, including attempted coercion at gunpoint and threats.
